The Real Me
By Michael Flipp
3/8/15

I am the Deacon on the board
I'm the one who cleaned the floors
I'm the one who fought the wars
The merry greeter at your doors...

I have all these faces that I put on
My name's as common as Mary or John
Just look around the church today
I'm the one that shakes your hand each day
But I'm afraid to let you see...
The REAL ME!

So I walk through those very doors
I take a seat in one of those pews
I put a great big smile on my face
And pretend there's no bad news

But deep down inside...
There are so many hurts and pains
So many cracks upon my heart
Too many locks on all those chains

They probably don't have the time...
So I'll just let it be
Cuz I'm afraid to let you see
The Real Me
Oh I'm afraid to let you see
The Real Me

I'm the one who serves in the kitchen
I sing in the choir and teach the children
I've been here forever like an Elder
I preach the sermon as your Pastor

I have all these faces that I put on
Like the countless islands in the sea
But I'm afraid to let you see
The REAL ME!

So I walk through those very doors
I take a seat in one of those pews
I put a great big smile on my face
And pretend there's no bad news

But deep down inside
There are so many hurts and pains
So many cracks upon my heart
Too many locks on all those chains

They probably don't have the time
So I'll just let it be
Cuz I'm afraid to let you see
The Real Me
Oh I'm afraid to let you see
The Real Me
